Dog is a pet and  domestic animals that are kept by individuals in our various homes, cities and other parts of the world.

Dogs are trained by all and individuals with various reasons.
Many also believed that rearing dogs is a way of life which is quite different from other peoples views.
Now let us look at various reasons why we keep and trained dogs in our homes

The followings are importance of keeping dogs in our homes
1 DOG SERVES AS SOURCES OF INCOME-Many people today rear and keep dogs just for the purpose of raising money for their living and revenue generations.

2 IT SERVES AS EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE PEOPLE-Majority of people today are engaged in dog rearing and keeping business that serves a source of employment and jobs for them.
They devote all their time, money and energy and all other available resources towards the rearing and keeping of the animals

3 DOGS HELPS IN GIVING AND TRANSFERRING INFORMATION-Dogs are kept in order to give an alert whenever there is danger looming around our homes and vicinities.
Examples are when  people of questionable characters are around the house the dogs will bark and give sound that people are around thereby making the whole people wake up and  be at alert .

4 DOGS ARE KEPT FOR HUNTING PURPOSES-Many farmers and hunters today used dogs as their companion when they are out for hunting and farming
The dogs are used to detect where animals are hidden in the bush by hunters and farmers.
They also serves as an escort and defense for the hunters and farmers when going out for farming and hunting.

5 IT IS USED AS EXPERIMENTAL PURPOSES BY PSYCHOLOGIST-The psychologist used dogs as an experiment to determined peoples and workers behaviors and attitudes towards their duties which automatically affects and impact the level of success achieved by the company or establishment.
In this way they used two model approaches which are

1 COERCIVE METHOD APPROACH MODELS

2 MOTIVATIONAL METHODS APPROACH MODELS.

1 In coercive method approach models, dogs are  coerced and forced and threatened to do or perform certain acts under duress which made the dogs to be very stubborn and fierce and turned to be aggressive without listening to his masters voice or instructions.

When dog is forced to drink water first without first giving it food to eat,it will refuse and feel reluctant to drink water no matter amount of pressure mounted on it will not make it drink water.

2 In motivational methods approach models, the psychologist assume that if dogs are given food first instead of water and after eating and finished with the food,it then have ability to drink from the water without anyone forcing it to drink water and if the dogs are motivated every day by way of regular food intake and be given all necessary attention due to it the dogs will performed to expectations.

If there are enemies around the dogs will bark and give a sign that the keeper will know that there must be cogent reasons while the dogs barks and prepare himself ready against any attack.

He then likened the studies of this dogs behaviors to the work environment whereby if the workers are handle and controlled by coercive leaders, there will be low productivity and failures in business in general but if the workers are motivated from time to time and given all necessary assistant by the employer that will enhanced their life positively they will performed better and this will enhance and increased production levels and also maximize profit.

He therefore suggested that employers of labor can boost and maximize profit if their employees are motivated adequately while non motivated employee will not put in their best in promoting and developing the company or organizations.

6 IT IS USED IN COMMUNICATION PURPOSES-Dogs are used in communication purposes such as sending them on errands to deliver parcels and messages from one place to the other.
In the developed world some experts used dogs to distribute letters and parcels of envelopes to the owners.

Bags are tied round the waist of the dogs with lots of pockets that can contain letters and parcels inside, then the dogs are directed by the owners to go and deliver it to the owners in the neighborhood the first time while the dogs can go and deliver another messages next time.

7 DOG SERVES AS A COMPANION-This means that dog helps in keeping companies with people.

It will not let someone feel lonely and helps in domestic activities but sometimes cruel if condition is not conducive.

8 IT SERVES AS SOURCES OF FOOD FOR THE MASSES-Dogs are used a s meat for consumption by both people who rear it and those who buy them for food consumptions
The meat and the flesh are full of fats and protein substance that helps in healthy growth.

9 DOGS ARE USED TO TEST IF DEADLY DISEASES ARE AROUND BY THE SCIENTIST AND RESEARCHERS
The researcher and scientist came out with a views that whenever there are deadly diseases looming around the town or cities,it will first affect the dogs rather than human beings and when the rate of death among the dogs rises above normal, then there is tendencies that same disease and sickness can be transfer to human beings thereby finding immediate solutions to avoid occurrence by ways of immunization and quarantine measures and approach.

Since dogs are sensitive to odors and irritations, they quickly respond to stimuli while the scientist take cognizance of their actions immediately

.it is called scientific discoveries and revolution

10 DOGS ARE USED FOR RECREATION AND EXERCISES-
Many dogs today are used for racing, recreations and exercises and sporting activities.

Many sports men or athlete today used dogs as their running partners that encourage them to increase their strength and ability to do more when engaged in sporting activities.

Above all dogs play a significant roles in many peoples life and serves a s protection for the masses.

Caring for a Vomiting Dog or Puppy – Home Treatment Versus Vet Care

Most dogs will experience vomiting at one time or another. Vomiting can have various causes and can be transient and mild or serious and even life-threatening.

What is Vomiting?

Vomiting is defined as the forceful expulsion of the contents of the stomach and upper part of the small intestinal tract. These contents travel up through the esophagus and out of the mouth when a dog or puppy vomits. Vomiting may be accompanied by nausea, excess drooling and apprehension on the part of the dog.

Treating Vomiting in a Dog or Puppy – When to Contact the Veterinarian

If vomiting in a dog or puppy is mild and the pet is still active, bright and alert and seems to be feeling well otherwise, it may be possible to treat the vomiting at home. However, some causes of vomiting can be quite serious and even potentially life-threatening. If a pet is lethargic, depressed or showing signs of dehydration, veterinary care is recommended for the dog or puppy. If the vomiting is persistent or is accompanied by severe diarrhea, veterinary care should sought.

Home Treatment for a Vomiting Dog or Puppy

If a dog or puppy is vomiting and it has been determined that the symptoms are mild and do not require veterinary care, the first thing to do is to take all food and water away from the vomiting dog or puppy. This will allow the dog’s stomach and intestinal tract time to recover from the insult which caused the vomiting. Allow at least six to eight hours without offering food or water to the dog or puppy.

If the vomiting is still persistent after the initial six to eight hour fasting period is complete, it is time to contact your veterinarian to schedule an appointment for your dog or puppy. Your dog or puppy requires veterinary intervention if the vomiting has not stopped after this length of time.

If the dog or puppy has gone six to eight hours without vomiting and is still acting normally otherwise, it is time to introduce a small amount of fluid to the dog or puppy. The fluid should be in the form of a clear liquid such as:

water (ice cubes can be used as well)

Gatorade

Pedialyte

other electrolyte solution

Offer the clear fluids in small quantities every two to three hours over the course of the next 12-24 hours. Do not allow the dog or puppy to gulp large amounts of the water or other clear liquids at one time. This will promote further vomiting. Small amounts of clear fluids given frequently will keep your dog or puppy hydrated and help return him to normal health.

If your dog or puppy has held down the fluids and has not vomited for 12-24 hours, it is time to introduce a small amount of a bland food. As with the fluids, offer small amounts frequently at 2-3 hour intervals. Do not allow the dog or puppy to ingest a large meal all at one time.

Once the dog or puppy has recovered from the vomiting, he can be slowly transitioned back to the regular diet and feeding schedule.

What Should Not be Done for the Vomiting Dog or Puppy

Never administer any over-the-counter medications to your dog or puppy without seeking advice from your veterinarian. Though there are over-the-counter medications which are safe for dogs and puppies, there are some which can be harmful. Doses for dogs and puppies are usually different than dosages used in people as well. In addition, a vomiting dog or puppy may not be able to hold down oral medications.

Following these steps is often all that is necessary to help a dog or puppy recover from common, minor causes of vomiting. However, if vomiting continues or other symptoms appear, veterinary care should be obtained for the dog or puppy.

Advertising! any form is helpful. Go out out and put some posters. Have a street party and encourage people to bring their dogs. Remember that you have to spend money to make money. Try sponsoring a sports team. Get on the local radio and get them to promote your buisness. It’s all about getting people to remember your company’s name.

As your dog gets older, you will witness noticeable differences in him or her physically. Their teeth will begin to wear down and will change color. Their eyes may begin to change color as well and start to appear gray or blue. The tone of their muscle will decrease and they won’t be able to get around as fast or as easily as they once could. As your dog ages, they also will begin to experience various illnesses and chronic health problems.

Because dogs are often like part of the family, you will want to be able to care for them as best as you can and in a manner that the dog is still experiencing a good quality of life. You want to make sure that you are very vigilant and that you watch them closely. Study them and see if they begin to act differently, or if they seem to be in pain. It will be more important than ever to get checkup visits on a regular basis so that your vet can pinpoint any serious problems.

You may want to do this as often as two times every year. These exams should include a blood workup.

If you are not sure of what warning signs to look for as your dog gets older, consider the following list.

-Your dog suddenly needs a lot more water than normal
-Your dog begins to throw up
-Your dog starts to gain or lose weight.
-Your dog suddenly has a change in their stools
-Your dog may have a harder time urinating
-Your dog’s stools suddenly become very loose or contain blood
-Your dog may begin going to the bathroom in the house
-Your dog may appear weak in the leg area or have a hard time walking, running or sitting down
-Your dog’s coat may begin to look dry, flake or lose fur
-Your dog may begin having a difficult time eating and digesting food.
-Your dog may exhibit behavior changes. They may be more cranky then usual.
-Your dog may begin coughing
-Your dog may begin to have trouble hearing
-Your dog suddenly becomes easily labored

Many dogs, as they get older, begin to suffer from diseases of the heart and kidneys. They will begin to have problems with their teeth and perhaps even their thyroid. If a dog is able to receive lots of good care, they can live for quite awhile even up to 15 years. However, this will differ based on their breed. Dogs that are neutered or spayed generally live longer. Some breeds of dogs such as Poodles, Airedale Terriers and Cocker Spaniels may live up to 20 years or more. Again, It depends on the breed, the individual dog and how well they are taken care of.

Keep on top of your dogs care with Small Pet Supplies.

So why do dogs pull on the leash? Well the simple answer is…they have never been taught not to.  I know that seems very obvious and probably a little on the frustrating side but it really is the truth. You have to remember that puppies and even dogs, for that matter, were not born wearing collars and leashes, and they really have no idea what these contraptions are for, unless we teach them. Dogs, like many people, are instant gratification animals.  If they see something they want or are interested in, they go investigate! Unfortunately if you are connected to afore mentioned dog via a leash, they simply drag you along for the ride! A dog that pulls has nothing to do with dominance or malice; they simply don’t yet understand what these tools are for and why on earth you have chosen to make them wear these weird feeling things.

Without getting into name calling, let’s just say some people in the realm of dog training look at the pulling on a leash as a direct challenge to their authority and a way for a dog to dominate them.

Really? Come on now, do you really think dogs are in the “world domination” business? Dogs do not have the cognitive ability to make or even attempt these grandiose power grabs…at least in the way some humans interpret them!  Dogs, if left to their own devices (without prior training,) simply figure out what works and what does not! I am a firm believer in the fact that dogs will not do anything that is not rewarding to them! Up till now, in Fido’s life he has learned that the fastest way to get to that “crazy squirrel” is to save time and drag Mom or Dad over there as well! It has always worked in the past and Mom & Dad must not mind because all they do is hold on and yell (bark) like crazy on the way. Have you thought that to the dog, it might just appear you are having as much fun as he/she is on the way to see said squirrel??? So how do we go about teaching Fido not to pull, you ask? Well in this guy’s opinion it starts with wrapping the leash around your waist, putting one foot in front of the other and using a basic obedience command! This does NOT mean using choke chains, leash jerk, raised frustration and increased blood pressure for both you and the dog!

As we discussed earlier, puppies/dogs have no idea what a leash or collar are for and it is our job to teach it right from the beginning.  So, let’s start simple and use the idea of tethering to teach Fido that being close to mom or dad is a good thing! Start by cinching a 6 foot leash around your waist and attaching it to the dog! Now you have, in a matter of speaking, an umbilical cord between you and your dog! Not to mention, and very important, you have eliminated your hands from the picture! In many cases we create our own problems with leashes by constantly tugging, pulling and jerking on our dogs without even realizing it! Remember Newton’s third law of motion? Every action has an equal and opposite reaction! By putting pressure on the dog’s neck, even without realizing it, you are the one creating the opposite pull by the dog! By simply taking your hands out of the equation you are starting the learning process!

The next step in the process is asking the dog for a sit! If you have not taught your dog this command, stop immediately and go back to the blog posts on this command and learn sit!  You cannot continue leash training without this basic command!  Now, with the dog attached to you via the leash, but without the use of your hands, take one giant step in any direction and ask Fido for a sit! Once the dog is sitting, CLICK, LAVISH WITH PRAISE AND GIVE A FOOD REWARD! Again, take one giant step, ask for a sit and reward.  Before you know it, you are walking all over the house one step at a time, while keeping the dog’s attention and guess what…no pull! As you get better, you will now take two giant steps then up it to three between sits; and as time goes by the giant step become normal steps and now we are walking. When you get really good inside the house, take this show on the road! Remember however, that walking in the living room and the front yard are totally different ball games! The distractions of the front yard are really hard and you will probably have to go back to the one giant step stage for a while before moving on!

This sounds really simple and it is, but it teaches three critical aspects of dog training! First that to walk a dog well, you need to have a loose leash! The dog should follow you and your movements not the directional’s they feel on their neck! Two, that by keeping a close eye on their owner and paying attention (see “watch me” command) Fido is rewarded on a walk, and third that anytime the human stops on a walk the dog should also stop and sit, waiting for what’s next!

This, in my opinion, is the perfect way to teach a puppy or young dog to walk nicely on a leash.  But what, if anything, can be done with a dog who has already learned that pulling is not only allowed, but also rewarded?  Don’t worry, we can handle that one also, and in many ways it will follow these basic principles, just using different techniques! Be aware, it will take time and practice to change bad habits.  So, get your walking shoes, your dog and be willing to admit that it won’t be a quick fix.  Then, enjoy the next post on “what to do when walking is already broke?”

Many people think that a cat is more exotic and fancy but I am here to inform you that you shouldn’t believe a word those crazy cat lovers say because dogs make the world go round here are 15 reasons why dogs are better then cats.

Dogs are Happy. Dogs think your the best person in the world even if you are grumpy, when you come home from school or work your Dogs will be there licking your face and jumping around and they cant wait to see you, while cats don’t notice if you are there or not as long as they get their food.
Dogs Care. A dog can sense when you are sad and they will comfort you to make you feel better, cats don’t give a rats arse.
Dogs Protect. If a robber comes in or a fire starts the dog will tell you while the cat just pretends it never saw it or just creep through the window if a fire is going on.
Dogs Play. Dogs will play with a ball or a toy with you for as long as there energy will hold while the only things cats play with is their bugs and mice.
Dogs are better for health. Dogs need to be walked it may seem like a drag but this is probably the only real walking you get for the day so it will make you live longer.
Dogs listen when you call. When you call your dogs name it will come running to you without fail, with a cat if it even knows its name it most likely wont come to you unless you have a can of food in your hand.
Dogs Listen. When you talk to dogs they will make faces and tilt there head and try to work out what your saying while cats just meow and walk away.
Dogs can do Tricks. You have to admit dogs can do some pretty cool tricks like rolling over sitting down catching balls and fetching things while the only trick a cat does is that it claws your face and furniture in two minutes flat.
Dogs Love. Dogs will love you until the day they die but on the other hand cats will make you suffer for every mistake you have ever done since you have been born.
Dogs are more Hygienic. Although some may argue that cats are more hygienic because they wash themselves but when they wash themselves they get fur balls and cough it up on the table and cats run all over your house touching everything with their paws and you don’t know where they have been while dogs are content on the ground.
Dogs aren’t selfish. Dogs will help you if your in trouble and are extremely loyal to their owners while cats only care about themselves.
Dogs get the girls. If you are a guy do you think a cat will get the girls? the answer is no only dogs will.
Dogs are variety. Dogs come in all shapes, sizes and colour to suit what the owner wants but cats are pretty boring as they really only vary in colour.
Dogs and sneezing. Its been proved that if a child is with a dog the first few years of their life it builds up their immune system and helps prevent asthma and sneezing allergy’s.
Dogs are Smart. Dogs are smarter then cats by fact and they will learn tricks and basic commandments easy and its also a load of fun.

I hope you agree with the above reasons if you have anything to add to the list or disagree with one of them just comment below.

Care for small breed dogs by exercising them: make them walk instead of carrying them everywhere. Take care of small breed dogs with the tips in this free video on dog training from a professional dog trainer. Expert: Zephyr Clarke-Dolberg Contact: www.miami-dog-training.com Bio: Zephyr Clarke-Dolberg is a certified professional dog trainer in Miami, Fla. Filmmaker: Paul Muller

One of the primary challenges the renters may face is finding a living situation which is acceptable to them and also willing to accept their pets. This can be difficult as many rental properties do not allow dogs at all. Those who do allow animals on the property may place certain restrictions on they size and breed of dog which may reside on the property.

Finding an Acceptable Living Situation

The first step in renting with dogs is to find an acceptable living situation. For those who wish to rent with dogs, the first question to be asked should be whether or not dogs are allowed to live on the property. This is important because it can save the renter a great deal of time. The renter may otherwise invest a great deal of time learning more about the property or even undergoing a credit check only to find out pet are not permitted.

For some dog owners, finding a rental situation which allows dogs is not the end of the search. The renter should also confirm the type of dog he owns will be allowed to live on the property. This may include both the size of the dog as well as the breed as some apartment complexes place limitations on the size of the dog and also prohibit certain breeds. Again confirming these facts early in the search for an apartment can be a tremendous time savings especially for those who own large or commonly banned breeds.

Renters should also consider the surrounding area when selecting a rental property. An ideal location would be one in which there is an adequate location to walk and exercise the dogs. Areas with large grassy areas may be ideal while areas which do not have a location to walk a dog may be problematic.

Read Contracts Carefully

Renters who have dogs should read their contract carefully before making a decision to rent a particular property. This is important because many landlords may impose restrictions on renters who own dogs. These restrictions may include, but are not limited to, requiring an additional security deposit for the renter, requiring specific cleaning methods on the carpets after the renter vacates the apartment and holding the renter responsible if the dog engages in nuisance barking. Nuisance barking can be a problem in apartment situations where the apartments are located close together and even share a common wall. Renters should be aware that in some situations, nuisance barking can be a cause for eviction. For these reasons, renters who own dogs should take the time to familiarize themselves with the rental contract.

Take Care of Your Rental Property

Finally, renters who have dogs may have to take additional efforts to maintain their apartment. This may include more diligent cleaning, especially of the carpets. Renters with dogs should respond quickly to accidents in the house to minimize the possibility of permanent staining and odors. Each accident should be addressed immediately and every effort should be made to clean the affected area completely.

Renters with dogs should also vacuum regularly especially if their dog is a heavy shedder. This will help to keep the living environment cleaner and will also minimize the amount of cleaning required when the renter vacates the property. Regularly vacuuming will prevent hair from being embedded into the carpet so deeply that it is difficult to remove.

Finally, renters with dogs should take care to pick up after their dogs while on walks and to keep their dogs leashed while in common areas. Many cities have leash laws and laws regarding picking up after dogs. Even if these laws are not in effect, renters should follow these policies as a courtesy to their neighbors. Additionally, keeping dogs on leashes during walks helps to ensure their safety by preventing them from running into the street.

The following are examples of dogs that top the list of most popular guardian dog breeds. These breeds, though quite rare, are available for adoption in many rescue groups and animal shelters. You might wait long before you get yourself these dogs, but they are definitely worth the wait, 100% of the time.

The Wolf Dog

On top of the list is the wolf dog. A wolf dog is a cross between any guard dog breed and a wolf. Wolf dogs do not make loving pets. They are mean, vicious, and hard to train. If you need a truly badass dog, get a wolf dog. If security is your priority wolf dogs are what you need. Imagine this, what kind of fool would dare break into a property where there are half wolves around?

The Caucasian Shepherd

Talk about size and viciousness, this dog have it. Contrary to the Wolf Dog, the Caucasian Shepherd is very gentle to those that it is familiar with, but is very suspicious to those who are not. This dog breed is very gentle to, too gentle in fact, sometimes to a fault. But when guarding a property or a facility, this dog is a must have.

The Butchers Dog

The butcher dog also known as the Cane Corso is bred in Southern Italy for hunting and protection purposes. It s powerful built and stable temperament make the dog ideal for guarding properties.

The Dogo Argentino

This is a large athletic and muscular mastiff. Originally bred for hunting big games, this dog is highly tolerant to pain and is very protective and gentle around children. Aside from that, they are very territorial and would protect it without second thoughts once they perceive that the territory that they are tasked to guard against intruders are violated.

The Boerboel

These dogs are bred solely for protecting the home. Very aggressive, powerful, and intelligent, this dog breeds have strong guarding instinct and would not be unwilling to demonstrate it any day that its capabilities are challenged. Boerboels, have that special ability to sense whether the family is in grave danger. Like any watchdog, to curve the Boerboels’ aggression, they should be introduced to visiting friends and other animals.

The Moscow Watchdog

This dog is a cross between a Caucasian shepherd and a Saint Bernard. Very receptive and intelligent, this dog poses both the characteristics of physical and mental attributes and attitudes of its original parents.

The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog

The best way to describe this dog is “muscular, large, and powerful”. This dog has very strong affinity to what they consider as the pack making them very protective of families and territories that they consider their own. This dog gets distressed when the family which it identifies as the “pack” is not together. Training is very important if you choose this dog as it has a domineering personality.

The Pyrenean Mountain Dog

Fearless, fiercely loyal and obedient, the Pyrenean will sacrifice itself for the family if needed.

The Rottweiler

Large, black, very powerful, reliable, and self-assured, the Rott is among the list of most popular guard dogs. Because of its size, this dog has to be trained and socialized early on due to its assertive character. Like any powerful dog, it has to learn its place. Poorly trained and it could be destructive.

The Doberman

If intelligence is what you desire in a dog, a Doberman is your dog. Loyal and gentle Dobermans attack only when it senses that the property or the family is in danger. They are easily trained and could restrain themselves not to kill their perceived enemies.

my dog is afrid of all kinds of leashes and collars whenever i put one on her she freaks out she wont move even when i throw treats shes a big mutt that looks like a lab. Ill even spend hrs trying to comfort her to move. Any Ideas to get her used to the leash and collar?
She’ll move if i dont hold it but she wont let me lead her

Best answer:

Answer by Sally B
Buy very light weight collar and leash and put it on her in the house and then let her just move around the house with it on. Don’t spend so much time trying to soothe her feelings. Just put it on and then go about your normal routine and let her adjust to feeling it around her neck and having the leash just trail her. Be sure the leash is short, light weight and the collar small and light weight. Give her a week of wearing it an hour or so at a time several times a day or evening. Then progress from there.
